INSTALLATION ON UNIX OR UNIX-LIKE SYSTEM (e.g. on FreeBSD)
i.) install `dictd', `dict' and `dictd-database' :
e.g. on FreeBSD
[root@mahoney] ~ $ cd /usr/ports/net/dictd
[root@mahoney] ~ $ make clean && make && make install && make clean
[root@mahoney] ~ $ cd /usr/ports/textproc/dict
[root@mahoney] ~ $ make clean && make && make install && make clean
[root@mahoney] ~ $ cd /usr/ports/net/dictd-database
[root@mahoney] ~ $ make clean && make && make install && make clean
ii.) create and edit `dict.conf' :
e.g. on FreeBSD
[root@mahoney] ~ $ touch /usr/local/etc/dict.conf
or
[rbm49@mahoney] ~ $ touch ~/.dictrc
then add the following to `dict.conf' or `~/.dictrc' :
server localhost
server dict.org
iii.) download archive (mvyut_DICT_current.tar.gz) :
e.g. on FreeBSD
[rbm49@mahoney] ~ $ wget \
http://homepages.comnet.co.nz/~r-mahoney/links/mvyut_DICT_current.tar.gz
iv.) uncompress and untar archive (mvyut_DICT_current.tar.gz) :
e.g. on FreeBSD
[rbm49@mahoney] ~ $ gunzip -qc mvyut_DICT_current.tar.gz | tar xvf -
v.) place `mvyut.dict.dz' and `mvyut.index' in a suitable directory:
e.g. on FreeBSD
[root@mahoney] ~ $ cp mvyut.dict.dz /usr/local/lib/dict/
[root@mahoney] ~ $ cp mvyut.index /usr/local/lib/dict/
vi.) edit `dictd.conf' :
e.g. on FreeBSD add the following to `/usr/local/etc/dictd.conf' :
database mvyut { data "/usr/local/lib/dict/mvyut.dict.dz"
index "/usr/local/lib/dict/mvyut.index"
vii.) stop and start `dictd' :
e.g. on FreeBSD
[root@mahoney] ~ $ /usr/local/etc/rc.d/dictd.sh stop
[root@mahoney] ~ $ /usr/local/etc/rc.d/dictd.sh start
viii.) test that `mvyut' is available :
